I have been painting for over 35 years - everything from book illustrations and caricatures to cards, china and murals.
I started drawing as a child and loved cartoons ..... still do - Giles, Thelwell especially and Cecil Aldin of course.

Eventually, this trait progressed to doing caricatures of people, horses and dalmatians - Mother is an authority on the breed - and then the family Christmas Cards. Many people have saved the whole 'collection' from years back - "We have all your mother's cards", they say. They were mostly in black & white then, of course, showing the Pilgrim family through the ages.

The Gallery pages will show you what I am doing now: cards, mugs, teatowels and pictures of course, available through several outlets nationwide - AND .... some of my old stuff, just for fun!

I taught riding for many years and was asked to illustrate a veterinary article in 'Horse and Rider', on the subject of Breeding Resistance. The sentence "It is essential that the mare cycles regularly" caught my imagination; other vterinary images presented themselves, such as this one - curing a wind problem with fizzy drink. It was like a door opening - "Hoorah! - I can draw anything I like!"

I illustrated and co-wrote many books for J.A. Allen, the Horseman's Publisher, back in the days when he still lived above the shop in Lower Grosvenor Place - round the corner from Buckingham Palace (see Books page).

I find it difficult to do animals - horses, dogs, chickens, without funny faces - but otherwise they are pretty much anatomically correct!

Twenty years ago, when my children were small, I began painting china, which I would sell at Dally shows. Tile panels and murals were a progression from that and many of my pieces have gone as far as Australia and the USA.

Nowadays, although I still produce original paintings for sale, the cards are from prints. China pieces are decorated using fired transfers of my own designs - but I stick them on and fire them myself!

I live in a small village in North Yorkshire with my two grown-up children, two cats and Prudence the pony (think Thelwell) and over the past few years have taken up the tuba and play in the local Brass Band.
